Department staff developed a new physical principle for detecting GHz-THz radiation

The journal “Journal of Applied Physics” published an article “Response to external GHz and THz radiation of K + @ C60 endohedral complex in cavity of carbon nanotube containing polymerized fullerenes”, dedicated to the new physical principle of detecting GHz-THz radiation developed by the teams of the Department of Radio Engineering and Electrodynamics Faculty of Physics and the Department of Mathematical Modeling of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Nanostructures and Biosystems. The authors of the article are Dr. Sc., Professor O.E. Glukhova and her students are candidates of sciences V.V. Shunaev and M.M. Slepchenkov. The results published in the article are a continuation of the RFBR grant No. 15-07-06307 “New application of hybrid carbon nanostructures for creating a nanodetector of giga- and terahertz waves,” implemented under the supervision of Dr. Sc., Professor O.E. Glukhova. The essence of the new principle is the response of an oscillating charged fullerene in the cavity of a nanotube to external radiation. The theoretical foundations of the research were the quantum-mechanical method of the theory of the density functional and the theory of quantum electron transport.

The article “Response to external GHz and THz radiation of K + @ C60 endohedral complex in cavity of carbon nanotube containing polymerized fullerenes” was prepared at the special invitation of the editorial board of the journal for the thematic issue “Advances in Terahertz Solid-State Physics and Devices”, dedicated to the latest achievements in terahertz solid-state electronics. The Journal of Applied Physics has been published by the American Institute of Physics since 1931 and is one of the most respected journals publishing experimental and theoretical research in applied physics. Over the past decades, the Journal of Applied Physics, by its impact factor, belongs to the first and second quarters (Q1-Q2) of the Web of Science Core Collection and Scopus databases.
